The Best Diet to Lose Weight and Keep it off!

dietsmall_imgThe best diet in the world to lose weight and keep it off is to not diet! I know that sounds crazy but it’s true. Do what I like to call “Conscious Eating” & “Conscious Living”. We live in a world where 62% of calories come from processed food (potato chips, pretzels, french fries, white potatoes, pastas, bagels, etc.)

27%-30% – Animal Products and only 5% Vegetables that contain all the photo nutrients, minerals, vitamins and micro-nutrients you need.

So if the average American diet only gets 5% of what it needs from its daily calories you can now see why obesity, type 2 diabetes and other diseases are on the rise. When someone goes on a diet, the one thing all diets have in common is that it cuts crap out of your diet like sugar and junk foods. So what is “Conscious Eating?” Every time you put something in your mouth you should be aware of what’s in it and what value it gives your body. “Your Body is a Temple” – “Attract Worshipers” is the saying on one of my t-shirts. What are you putting in your temple? Instead of dieting, start being aware of what you are eating and its nutritional value. If what you are eating doesn’t benefit your body, then don’t eat it! I know that sounds hard but you can accomplish this with a few simple steps.

1. Start reading the labels on what you eat and if you can’t pronounce any of the ingredients you probably shouldn’t eat it. Also, the ingredient that you can’t pronounce you should Google it and I’m sure you will be amazed with what you find.
2. Think about what healthier options you could be making at that moment. If you drink a Coke at lunch time to get a little bit more energy can you replace that with a Green Tea a few times a week instead? Or, for every soda you drink you have to drink the equal amount of water right after.
3. Think about complex carbohydrates when it comes to food “if it’s brown take it down, if it’s white it aint right.” Can you replace a sandwich with a complex carbohydrate (muti-grain bread) or the morning bagel with cream cheese with Steel Cut Oats from Starbucks. Both quick and easy both one option is way better for you than the other. One option is simple sugar and dairy, the other option is Whole Oats with Nuts and berries, which will give you good nutrients that your body can use and will give you sustained energy.
4. Work towards eliminating sugar from candy bars, cookies etc, with making healthier options such as fruit. Candy bars are processed and high in bad sugars. Fruit has natural sugars and fiber. I’m not asking you to get rid of your candy bars right away just become aware of how much you are eating and think about how often you can replace them with something that nourishes your body.

There are a lot more steps to Conscious Eating but for now I’m just giving you enough to get started on your path. The goal is for you to eventually crave what is good for your body and feel good about your choices. Just start being aware and make small adjustments and as you continue to hang out with me and read my blogs we will take things to the next level. “Slow and Steady wins the race”

I agree with the author, a diet is not so good for your health and you probably should discuss it with your doctor first. Knowing what you eat and healthy cooking combined with exercises and sport is a lot more effective then a diet.
